Roseate Terns from Porthcawl

Two Roseate Terns flew past down channel this morning. Above a record shot of one Roseate Tern with some Common Terns*. A few better images and some totals from the seawatch later...

Well done getting a shot Mark - great record too! Looks like a Common Tern in the group too - 3 for the price of 1!

Thanks Barry. You know me when it comes to the getting a record shot - everything else becomes secondary. In this case my early call on the Roseate's company was hasty. Nice shout on the Common Terns, as far as I can see they're all Common Terns and In my other photos most if not all show the darker outer wedge either distinctly or beginning to form. In my defence I didn't spend much time looking at them closely enough through the digiscope setup. No excuse for not looking at the photos more closely though! Oh well looks like it's back to tern school for me! Even so Roseate Tern in Glamorgan has been high on my hit-list for a while now and I thought it would take many a visit to the Burry Inlet in autumn before getting one. Get one on patch the next goal..

Spring comics are never easy, especially when there's a Roseate distracting you. Very nice sequence of shots - great for those of us who weren't there!
