GRC Blog


Welcome to the GRC Recorders pages. This blog provides details on all the relevant news of Glamorgan’s scarcer birds, plus all BBRC & WRP decisions that affect us locally. It will also be used to document the status and occurrence of these scarcer species and we welcome contributions from anyone with photographs, artwork or documentation of rarities past, present and future. The GRC also welcomes all seawatching news from around Glamorgan and news of passage migrants in spring & autumn, uncommon birds in our area and unusual behaviour.

Blog content will be strictly moderated. Access to pages and downloads are available to everyone. All photographs on this blog remain the property of the originator.

The Glamorgan Rarities Committee, in conjunction with the Glamorgan Bird Club & Gower Wildlife , have agreed to co-operate with the Welsh Ornithological Society in the sharing of bird records & photographs in the interest of keeping accurate records and to promote birdwatching in North, Mid & South Wales.

Porthcawl (0730 - 1700hrs)

Another juv Sabine's Gull was seen today @ 1320hrs, this time in close. Initially was seen flying west until it reached in front of shelter. Then gave up and landed on the sea and drifted back east towards the lighthouse and then into the bay. It was on view for 20mins and at its closest was no more than 120mts distant.

Other birds of note included 2 pp Arctic Skua, 1 Great Skua, 1 Storm Petrel, 1 Red Throated Diver, 1 Pintail, 51 Arctic Tern, 3 Common Tern, 2 Sandwich Tern, 2 Whimbrel, 3 Dunlin, 2 Manx & 1 Med Gull.

Later in Trecco Bay Car Park  - 2 Med Gull & 1 Sandwich Tern.
