GRC Blog


Welcome to the GRC Recorders pages. This blog provides details on all the relevant news of Glamorgan’s scarcer birds, plus all BBRC & WRP decisions that affect us locally. It will also be used to document the status and occurrence of these scarcer species and we welcome contributions from anyone with photographs, artwork or documentation of rarities past, present and future. The GRC also welcomes all seawatching news from around Glamorgan and news of passage migrants in spring & autumn, uncommon birds in our area and unusual behaviour.

Blog content will be strictly moderated. Access to pages and downloads are available to everyone. All photographs on this blog remain the property of the originator.

The Glamorgan Rarities Committee, in conjunction with the Glamorgan Bird Club & Gower Wildlife , have agreed to co-operate with the Welsh Ornithological Society in the sharing of bird records & photographs in the interest of keeping accurate records and to promote birdwatching in North, Mid & South Wales.

Came off the sea and looked very pale below,so first thoughts of Gyr,then it landed.Took 18x 12 mp Lumix and some stealth.She flew low over Neals towards the turbine.I wondered why it was exceptionaly quiet.

Nice photo Clive. As you say 'came in off the sea'. Did you see any jesses? A bird like this costs a lot of money - someone somewhere must be missing this bird. The plumage looks really good too - not just out of a cage look about it.

Sorry Jeff but didn't expect a Saker.
Did not see any jesses and yes a few grands worth.Well it didn't hang around.There has not been any falcons on the tip for awhile and they were usually Gyrs.It just seem to gather its breath an bomb over the levels and out of sight.

Was only kidding Clive,was waiting for more news,not seen one in the wild but watched a falconer flying one at a country fair up at Builth Wells a couple of years ago,incredible birds !!
