GRC Blog

Welcome to the GRC Recorders pages. This blog provides details on all the relevant news of Glamorgan’s scarcer birds, plus all BBRC & WRP decisions that affect us locally. It will also be used to document the status and occurrence of these scarcer species and we welcome contributions from anyone with photographs, artwork or documentation of rarities past, present and future. The GRC also welcomes all seawatching news from around Glamorgan and news of passage migrants in spring & autumn, uncommon birds in our area and unusual behaviour.

Loughor Estuary

The Great White Egret was followed as it left WWT Llanelli and headed off high to the east. It was eventually seen to fly into Glamorgan just north of Loughor Bridge, at which point it turned north and started to drop and drift up the Loughor Estuary where it was lost to sight. The bird was eventually relocated in the afternoon at Llangennech (on the Carmarthenshire side) by Peter & Simon Murray.

Chris Brewer said the bird was at Castell-du (SN583021) this afternoon, plus it was also seen on the Glamorgan side of the Upper Loughor 3 days ago by Bob Howells.
